COOL CHAIN QUALITY INDICATOR (CCQI)

CCQI quality standard – The CCQI industry standard was jointly by the Cool Chain Association (CCA), an association of internationally operating companies within the cold chain, and the former Germanischer Lloyd (today DNV), a global classification society. The aim was to make the quality of the cold chain assessable and documented according to objective and globally valid standards and characteristics. CCQI stands for Cool Chain Quality Indicator and thus points to a special and truly innovative part of the management system: a quantitative quality assessment with a point system - the Quality Indicator. While conventional quality management systems are primarily satisfied with “checking off” individual requirements, the CCQI standard evaluates technical facilities, processes and competencies quantitatively. What is assessed is the prerequisites that a company has to be part of a link in the cold chain, e.g. B. during transport, storage or handling to meet certain requirements. The main thing here is to maintain a specified temperature range.

An excerpt from the CCQI evaluation sheet

The basis for awarding points is a risk-based approach: What does a company do to reduce the risk of damage to the goods being transported and how efficient are these measures? A company only receives a CCQI certificate if it exceeds a minimum score - the CCQI benchmark - in the assessment. The Dr.-Ing. Yves Wild Ingenieurbüro GmbH was involved in the development of the CCQI standard and therefore offers first-hand advice to companies seeking CCQI certification. This can include:

  • Analysis of operational processes relevant to the cold chain
  • Creation of the CCQI manual
  • Determination of CCQI points for all relevant operations
  • Advice on improving cold chain quality / increasing CCQI points
