CO2 EMISSIONS

CO2 emissions

Climate change is one of the greatest challenges of our time. The transport sector causes a quarter of all global greenhouse gas emissions (Statista 2022), international shipping (especially merchant ships) accounts for around 10-15% of this.

EU and IMO (International Maritime Organization) have obliged shipping companies to systematically record and pass on emissions data. The IMO also maintained indices such as Energy Efficiency Design Index (EEDI) and Energy Efficiency Existing Ship Index (EEXI) to create binding and comparable energy efficiency standards for new buildings and existing ships.

Market-based mechanisms to reduce emissions will soon be implemented across the EU - such as the integration of shipping into CO2 certificate trading and/or a minimum energy tax on ship fuels.

Theoretical comparison calculation of the specific power consumption of refrigerated containers and refrigeration systems on refrigerated ships

The Dr.-Ing. Yves Wild Ingenieurbüro GmbH has been researching energy efficiency and CO20 emissions in shipping for over 2 years. We support, among other things: Shipping companies and logistics companies in the following areas:

  • Data collection, quality control and evaluation of fuel consumption and greenhouse gas emissions from ships (Carbon footprint)
  • Calculation of relevant parameters / KPIs, internal and external benchmarking
  • Comparison of different ship types/sizes and routes
  • Optimization of energy efficiency in refrigerated transport at sea
  • Determination of business savings potential

Many years of know-how in developing customer-specific modeling enables us to provide tailor-made advice for various parts of the Supply Chain.

Our Experts draw up Expert opinion on CO2 emissions / carbon footprint and consult Happy to help with problems. If necessary, they carry out their own Measurements through or evaluate existing measured values / operating data.
